District Clerk of Court

The Clerk of District Court office is located on the upper level of the McKenzie County Courthouse. Parking is available on the west side of the building, which provides ease of access to all upper level offices.

The primary function of the Clerk’s office is to maintain the legal records of the Court, which fall into the following major categories: civil, restricted (adoptions/juvenile/paternity); criminal; probate; administrative traffic; and child support enforcement. In addition, this office qualifies and calls juror candidates when a jury trial is scheduled; and, if requested by the judge, a clerk will be present in the courtroom to maintain exhibits presented at trial and keep a record of proceedings when court is in session.

In McKenzie County, a resolution of the Board of County Commissioners assigns certain "non-judicial duties" to the Clerk of District Court. The primary non-judicial duties are issuing marriage licenses and serving as passport acceptance agent.
